Birthday balloons stuck in a tree on a rainy day. Taken from underneath my umbrella - obviously.

Happy spring! Why not celebrate with friends by eating lunch at Chipotle while dressed like an Easter egg basket? Nice color coordination, kiddos.

You're so vain...

Come on, it was the first sundress day of the summer!

I hated this little boy & girl on the Metro who wouldn't stop swinging from the bars. I wanted tog get a picture of them doing it, but nothing makes me more nervous than trying to photograph people's kids surreptitiously.

On a cab home from the hotel - sometimes I'm struck by the fact that I live here...

Also taken by Pat. Me watching the conference with colleagues.

Taken by Pat Jarrett (patjarrett.blogspot.com) at a policy conference I worked. Dr. Larry Summers of the White House National Economic Council speaks to attendees.

Hair mistakes: Looking like a conehead.

I only took the photo so I could tell if it looked OK. The answer is that it absolutely didn't. Who needs a mirror when you've got a camera phone? Ah, technology.

Was having a REALLY terrible day. Epically terrible, I would venture to say. But blossoming flowers indicate that spring in the District has, in fact, sprung, & even my grumpy self couldn't let that pass without a smile.

Apr. 16th, 2009

Two great things: Someone left this excellent desk chair in the lobby of my apartment, so I snagged it to replace the broken swivel chair I'd been using. The second great thing is that book, "Assassination Vacation" by Sarah Vowell, which I am absolutely obsessed with & cannot put down.

OK, so I've double up twice. But I love this Peep stuck to some construction on Connecticut!

Apr. 14th, 2009

I know some of you get cranked when I double up my photos of the day with my Suburban Sweetheart blog posts, but this one made me too angry to pass up. You can read the full story about this guy here.

Most embarrassing book I've ever had to purchase. It was for work! I'm returning it! I swear!

While plenty of people spent today celebrating Easter & the rebirth of their savior, I couldn't help but remember those who are not risen. Dave's grave is always littered with trinkets from friends & family, but it still looks tattered, forgotten. His mom has yet to put his name on the bench where his father is also buried, & I've begun to believe she never will.

And on a lighter note, my mom's faux-granddaughter, 4-year-old Daphne Anne, made a super-cute Easter Bunny this afternoon - yes, wearing a loofah tail & sequined ears! She was kind enough to share some of her candy with me.

Hanging out with old friends, drinking at River City just after midnight, celebrating Annie's 26th birthday. We're gettin' old...

Some things never change - but in a really good way.

My mom holds our cowering pup, Missy, to try to trim her nails on some grinder thing that makes horrific noises.

Apr. 9th, 2009

I went with this little guy, Austin, to get fitted for a bridesmaid dress for his mommy & daddy's September wedding. He was so good & well-behaved... except for when he slammed his head into my face in an escape attempt.

Homeward bound! Ohio, here I come.

Apr. 7th, 2009

My boss shaved his dog, Max, who's been wearing a sweater to keep himself from shivering. Basically, he looks like a large, embarrassed rat. Poor little guy!

Spent a sunny Sunday reading on a friend's roof deck in Columbia Heights next to, yes, a red gargoyle.

I house-sat in Bethesda this weekend, & when I got to the house around 9:00, the entire neighborhood was pitch black. The wind took out the power, so there I was, bumbling around in the dark in a stranger's house. But then I started taking some crazy pictures with my lone candle, so all's well that ends well. The power, of course, came back on as soon as I fell asleep, setting the house alight and abuzz, damn it.

Trivia night at Sixth & I Synagogue. We came in 4th -- but only because we didn't trust our guts, changing the answers to three otherwise-correct initial responses.

Rainy Wednesday in the Dupont Metro station. I always love Metro photos. An easy out? Maybe.

CHERRY BLOSSOMS! Welcome, spring.

Mar. 30th, 2009

Spent the day fairly miserable, stayed home from work with some of the worst back pain I've had in ages. MISERY. Thanks, spine.

Sunny Sunday! My friend Katie gave me a bunch of hand-me-downs, mostly skirts, just in time for spring.
