I spent Sunday afternoon at a local synagogue, where three rotations of more than 700 high schoolers from across the country (I met kids from Alaska & Hawaii, even!) got together to package kosher meals for a food bank in New York City. I don't normally like mass Jewish events because I still feel excluded & foreign, but this was a cool event to watch happen. The kids were really joyful, excited to there, happy to work together - they were singing, dancing, laughing, & just glad to helping out.
